My research interests have been related to hydrogeophysical characterization of the near surface, using low frequency electrical methods such as self-potentials. I’ve been studying the electrokinetic response of unsaturated media, using streaming-potentials and seismoelectric measurements, both at the laboratory and in the field. I’m currently working on permeability changes over time in groundwater reservoir using tidal responses.

Thomas Göebel
CERI, University of Memphis
Research Interests: My research focuses on the investigation of fault structures, seismicity distributions and earthquake source processes. I integrate rock mechanics experiments, statistical seismology, and fault structural observations to advance understanding of the complex interaction between tectonic loading and fault heterogeneity as well as respective implications for rupture dynamics. My research aims to improve the documentation of fault structure and stress, based on micro-seismicity analysis at seismogenic depth where other observational methods are not feasible. My investigation of micro-seismicity is also important to monitor fluid-flow and the activation potential of faults due to fluid injection and waste water disposal.

Joe Cherayil
Email: jcherayi@ucsc.edu
Research Interests: Seismology. My research focuses on the variability of b-values in locked and creeping faults.
Paul Colosi
Research Interests: Seismology and Volcanology. My current research uses machine learning algorithms to predict the size of volcanic eruptions.
Marshall Danese
Senior Data Scientist
Research interests include: granular rheology & mineralogy of shear zones
Jacqui Gilchrist
Data Science Fellow
Research Interest: I’m interested in earthquake occurence and interaction. I use physics based earthquake simulators to study fault interactions and long-term earthquake statistics, as well as rupture dynamics. My work primarily involves studying the effects of different frictional properties and fault geometries on the probabilities of large earthquakes using the multi-cycle earthquake simulator RSQSim and a California fault model.
